Two Months Old!
And then there was week 7...oh, there was week 7. You began to challenge us to a whole new degree. You found out that your lungs worked, and that they worked very, very well. Your lungs had stamina that we didn't know could be contained in such a tiny little package. For some reason, everyday anywhere in between 11 am to 4 pm were the worst for your crying spells...not the typical "colic."
At the end of week 7, we were at our limit and called to get you in to the doctor just to make sure there wasn't something like an ear infection brewing that we were missing. I was fairly confident that it wasn't an infection of any sort because you weren't running a fever and just didn't act "sick." You were just very fussy. You still had a good appetite, but feeding was a challenge. A few gulps into a bottle and you cried like you were in lots of pain. It was a struggle for all of us. The doctor confirmed that you did not have an ear infection or any other identifiable cause of the fussiness, so we labeled you a reflux baby. She switched us from Zantac (which didn't seem to be helping) to omeprazole.
Week 8 was not much better. Up until week 8, I was pretty sure that everyone thought I was joking about how difficult you were because by the time people were off work for the day you were done with your fussiness and mostly slept. Everyone commented on how good of a baby you were. Daddy got off work early one day and came home in the middle of an afternoon spell and from then on I think he had a good idea what I was talking about.
After 2 weeks of you being completely miserable, we decided after much consideration that we were going to give the chiropractor a try. I did lots of research and talked to a lot of people whom the chiropractor had basically cured their babies, and at that point, I wanted to do whatever we could to try to make you feel better. Thankfully, we discovered that they don't do any cracking of joints and only use light pressure over the areas for the adjustments. After you had your 2 month check and 3 immunizations, we took you to your first chiropractor appointment where she demonstrated everything she was going to do to you on us first and did just a few adjustments. You came home, ate, and slept hard for a good 4 hours. You woke up with a diaper blow out and a terrible screaming fit that lasted just shy of 2 hours and after a little tylenol you finally fell asleep. You got up twice to eat during the night but then went back to sleep relatively quickly. The next day, you were a whole new baby. You woke to eat, would nap, and would even tolerate laying by yourself for awhile while you layed there awake and entertained yourself. This was something that you didn't do a whole lot of before. We went back to the chiropractor again where she did more adjustments. You threw a screaming fit on the way home and ended up blowing out your diaper again just as we walked in the door. (At this point, I'm beginning to wonder if this has something to do with the adjustments or not? It will be interesting to see!)

She's going to be upset with me about this one - but watching these 2 sleep is about the cutest thing you'll ever see. Not real sure who enjoys it more. Pretty spoiled! |
